One day, Scott helped me make a list of everything I had to do so I wouldn’t melt into a puddle of self-pity and overwhelm. One of the things on the list, right under ‘get non-ugly clothes’ and ‘don’t be a bitch’, was ‘get in shape’. I said I would achieve this by eating less carbs and skating more. So far I am just skating more. When I first learned to skate parks it was in this pool at Alga by slowly rolling around the deep end. I’d come in the morning before work and set my board farther and farther up the transition each session. I had high hopes of someday hitting those bold black and white tiles at the top of the deep end. I can’t believe it happened today. Two kids and four years later. Now I can check something off some list.
