I just got back from San Francisco for Bay to Breakers. Have you heard of it before? I honestly hadn’t until some of my friends started claiming it was the best day of the year in San Francisco. Bold, I thought. The best day of the year? Birthdays are pretty cool. And 4th of July? I mean, it doesn’t get much better than being out on a summer night, eating barbecued food while watching dynamite burst playfully above your head. So, I had to see what this was all about. My husband, Scott, couldn’t go thanks to work on the weekend. Bummer. So I flew up by myself.
For those of you who don’t know, Bay to Breakers is an “athletic” event where a little over 20,00 people register to run 12 kilometers from San Francisco Bay to the highway near Ocean Beach and around 75,000 “bandits” show up in costumes and party their way through the city, usually not crossing the finish line. I did not run the race. I like running, don’t get me wrong, but the best day of the year my friends referred to had nothing to do with completing a 12K (thankfully, since I don’t really like running that much). Overall, I give Bay to Breakers an 7 out of 10, with 10 being my wedding day. So, yeah, it was pretty sweet.
